So after month of planning and sneaking around, me and my brother and sisters managed to pull off the best surprise of all, for my Mum’s 60th birthday we told her that we had all planned and organised for her to go to Paris for her birthday with my Dad…little did she know that we had also sneakily planned to get the Eurostar down the day after and surprise her on the morning of her big day!
We had 2 fantastic days exploring the delights that Paris has to offer, we stayed in an Air B&B just off the beautiful pedestrian street in Montorgueil. It is a stunning area of Paris, it is central but away from the touristy areas and full of cobbled streets and alley ways lined with bistros, cafes, bakeries and stores selling cheese, wine and flowers. It is apparently one of the famous places in Paris where Parisians go to drink after work.
We walked around Paris all day until I thought my feet were going to fall off, we had champagne at the top of the Eiffel Tower, enormas croissants for breakfast, Croque-monsieur for lunch and one of the best tiramisu I have ever had for dessert. It was a beautiful winters day which the most pinkest of sunsets at night. On day 2 we explored some more but there was one thing I had to do before getting the Eurostar back to London….go shopping!
I have been to Paris quite a few times before and always like to stock up on french brands that are much cheaper in there than in the UK (even still with the terrible exchange rate!
) The top place to go is City Pharma on Rue du Four, we didn’t have time to get over there on this trip but in Paris there are pharmacies everywhere, I saw 4 on just one small street, they sell top brands like Sisley
and rival any UK department stores for top quality skincare.
My first go to item is always Bioderma Sensible H2O micellar water
. This has been a staple for me for many years and I use alongside my oil based cleanser, It is great to remove make up when I am feeling lazy and I use a little bit as well to tidy up mistakes or fall out from doing my eye make up. In the UK a 250ml bottle on feel unique
costs £10.50 (excluding packaging). In most pharmacies in Paris you can buy a multi-pack of 2x 500ml bottles for €16 (around £13.40!!)
this is a massive saving and definitely a cult favourite I always pick up when I am in the city or kindly ask friends and family who are visiting to bring home for me.
Secondly I purchased 2 NUXE
products, firstly I couldn’t come home without Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse –
beauty editors from all around the world name this as one of their staple product, a dry nourishingly oil that can be used on your face, skin and hair it is designed to nourish and replenish the skin and leave your hair shining.
In Paris a 100ml bottle cost me €21 (£17.50) – Space NK in the UK costs £28 (a saving of over £10!)
Next up was a re-purchase I was waiting to go to Paris to get. It is the NUXE Reve de Miel Baume Levres Ultra-Nourrissant Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm
. A friend introduced this to me a long time ago and I never looked back. This is the BEST
lip balm I have ever used, it is thick and moisturising and quickly helps to restore dry lips . The brand on their site say that the product was tested in extremely cold conditions in Canada with fantastic results and on looking at the Feel Unique site they say that one is sold every 28 seconds across the world! A real MUST have product, especially at this time of the year!
The lip balm in Paris cost me $6 (around £5) instead of the £10 to purchase in the UK! (50% saving!)
Another go to item is the celeb and super model favourite Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré Nourishing Moisturiser –
known as the miracle cream it has been around since the 1950’s. It is a 6 in 1 product, a primer, moisturiser, make up remover, repairing masking, an after shave cream and baby care product. I also like to have this stocked up at home and so buy whenever I see it! It is also so much cheaper in France. In the UK the 75ml tube costs £20 where in Paris you can buy 2 for €27 (around £22!! for 2!!)
Lastly I picked this up at the counter waiting to purchase (always a sucker for those till treats!
) I am a big fan of Avène products, especially the thermal water which I always like to have in my bag. I picked up the 100ml size of the Xeracalm A.D Lipid Replenishing Cleansing oil
for face and body. It is specifically formulated to gently cleanse all types of dry skin, especially those who are prone to skin irritations and dry skin.
The 100ml size was €5 (£4) – The 400ml bottle in the UK is around £18
Overall I spent €80 – £67 but the products would have cost me in the UK around £110 so that is a saving for £43!!
I would love to know about any great buys that you have found on your travels!
